Wildlife Tours India
Corbett Wildlife Tour
India is a compelling place, with devotees that return time and again. The
combination of a diversity of ancient and complex cultures, stunning landscapes,
and abundant wildlife make it a superb place to visit for a wildlife holiday.
Throughout the country man and nature have been locked together in mutual dependence
in the same way for centuries; here birds and man
have learnt to get along with each other in close proximity, so that the birding
is amongst the best in the world for the sheer numbers of approachable birds
we shall encounter. We'll be there at one of the best times of year to visit:
when the climate is pleasant (and can be really cool on occasions); when the
resident bird population is swelled by wintering species, and when high altitude
Himalayan birds descend to accessible lower levels. We visit some of the best
habitats in the region - from the incomparable wetlands of the fertile plain
of the Ganges to the forests and savannah of Corbett National Park, up to the
hill-station of Nainital in the Himalayan foothills.

Day 5 - Day 6. Corbett
In the afternoon we'll go into the National Park. Corbett National Park protects
a large tract of forest and savanna in the Himalayan foothills, and was India's
first National Park. In winter it can be cold in these areas, and birds descend
from
the higher levels of the Himalayas to add to the park's bird riches. The variety
of
birds in the area is fantastic, and the area has its own population of Tigers.
We
shall be journeying on elephant back into the park in search of these and other
wildlife
, including Sloth Bear and Mugger Crocodile. The lodge inside Corbett is simple
(you could e
ven say spartan) but the food is good, and the location is fabulous!
Two nights Corbett National Park
.
Day 7 - Day 8. Corbett - Nainitali
We ascend the Himalayan foothills through ever more spectacular scenery to the
hill station of Nainital. A somewhat worn but picturesque remnant of the British
Raj,
Nainital lies beside a glacial lake, and is backed by a crater-like ridge, with
snowcapped
peaks beyond rising to over 2,600 m. The area is a mixture of pinewoods, open
country and small
lakes, and the views from some of the hills behind the town are simply fantastic.
Here
Lammergeiers and Himalayan Griffon Vultures soar overhead, and we shall be walking
amongst
the area's forests and fields in search of resident and migrant mountain birds,
including
Red-flanked Bluetail, Streaked Laughing-Thrush, Altai Accentor and Golden Bush
Robin, for a
spectacular finale to the trip. Overnights in Hotel in Nainital
